The Tata Bolt is Tata’s contender in the premium hatchback segment, and by the looks of it, Tata has hit the bull’s eye. Essentially it is the same design architecture as that of the Zest, the Bolt has a large interior space, and the interior quality has improved to a level where it can actually stand at par with its German competitors.

Bolt features one of the highest spec equipment listings in the segment. The choice of engines is same as that of the ones available in the Zest, and with such refined and capable engines, comfortable quality interiors, Bolt is seriously a good car among the hatchbacks. The hatchback is made available in both the fuel trims with 4 variants in petrol and diesel.

Tata Bolt price starts at ₹ 5.25 Lakh and goes up to ₹ 7.85 Lakh. The price of Petrol variant for Bolt ranges between ₹ 5.25 Lakh – ₹ 6.78 Lakh and the price of Diesel variant for Bolt ranges between ₹ 6.58 Lakh – ₹ 7.85 Lakh.

The Bolt is available in 5 colors i.e. Venetian Red, Pristine White, Platinum Silver, Sky Grey and Titanium Grey. However, some of these colors are available in specific versions. The mileage of Bolt ranges from 17.57 kmpl to 22.95 kmpl.

2. Engine Performance:

Bolt is available in four trim levels in the market, and with two engine options. The 1.3 liter, 4 cylinder engine produces 75bhp power. This engine is refined and the torque pull makes it a fairly good engine to ride.
Bolt’s turbocharged petrol REVOTRON engine is a 1.2 liter 4 Cylinder Engine; this engine runs smoothly throughout the rev range and its drivability is top notch. The REVOTRON powered Bolt makes a very strong case for itself in the premium hatchback segment.

The Diesel engine is 1248 cc while the Petrol engine is 1193 cc. It is available with the Manual transmission. Depending upon the variant and fuel type the Bolt has a mileage of 17.57 to 22.95 kmpl.

3. Steering & Suspension:

The Power steering is simply awesome with tilted column assisted with Rack & Pinion type gear. The Turning Radius is about 5.1 meters.

Tata Bolt is a supreme hatchback class model. It delivers premium comfort with its McPherson Strut with Coil Spring and Anti-Roll Bar on front and Twist Beam with Coil Spring and Shock Absorbers on the rear side.

4. Braking & Safety:

The braking system with front brakes being solid discs and rear being drums are a standard throughout the 8 available trims. The safety features include two front airbags, ABS with EBD, engine
immobilizer, and auto door lock system. The availability of air bags, ABS and other safety features differ as per the trim levels.

5. Comfort:

Tata Bolt makes every comfort points clear with its adjustable power steering, Warning lights. Accessory Power Outlet looks just perfect. If you had a rough day, rear set headrest is there for you. There are cup holders on the front side of the car. Tech features like Remote controlled trunk and fuel lid openers are just smooth as glide. Key less entry gives a handy an easy entry to the car. Other features like AC, heater delivers a suitable temperature as your wish.

6. Interior:

The biggest leap from the Tata’s of old has been in the interiors where Tata has clearly taken the segment by surprise by providing a decent cabin for the driver and the occupants. The Dials are simple but combined with a dark console, they look elegant and sporty. The three spoke steering too has a chunky feel to it and it features steering mounted controls on the top variants. The all black look of the dash also adds up to the appeal of the cabin, while the fit and finish is truly world class on the Bolt.

The differentiating factor on the Bolt is the way you can sync your phone mapping apps with the touch screen display at the centre on the console; it goes a long way in enabling the users to find their way easily through traffic. The seats offer good support and comfort to the passengers, making the car a good travel companion.

7. Exterior:

The Bolt strikes out as a well balanced car from the outside, with every curve and angle adding to a big premium looking hatchback. The segment first blackened out headlights are enormous in size and adds a sporty stance to an otherwise high hatchback. The top end variants in the Bolt come with projector headlamps providing a solid look as well as good visibility at nights. The front bumper gets a trapezoidal grill that makes the car look agile from the front and along with the dark black honeycomb grill the Bolt looks muscular from the front.

From the rear, the sporty theme continues where the C-Pillars are blackened giving the car premium air to it. The chrome strip that runs just above the boot mounted number plate adds class while also covering the bulk of the car. The departure from the old long strip taillights from Tata is a welcome addition; the new tail lights look small but gel very well with the overall proportion of the car.
