Top Car Units Sold in the month of July 2021 v/s July 2020

In 2020, July saw an incredible increase in automobile sales. But as compared to July 2021, it was a little mellow. Even so, there are many automobile brands that increased their sales. As high as 143% YoY is visible. Before discussing the list of top carmakers, let’s see their statistics. FADA releases these statistics every month. It keeps a check on total sales, profit, losses, and thus Growth.

Further, the companies with the highest sold cars are:
  • Maruti Suzuki – 1,33,732
  • Hyundai – 48,042
  • Tata Motors – 30,184
  • Mahindra- 20,797
  • Kia – 15,016
  • Toyota – 13,103
  • Renault – 9,787
  • Honda – 6,055
  • Nissan – 4,259
  • MG Motors – 4,225
  • Ford – 3,139
  • Skoda – 3,080
  • Volkswagen – 1,962

It is necessary to realize that the growth YoY percentage is calculated for first-sell cars. This does not include the car dealers’ processes.

1Maruti Suzuki1,33,73297,786+36.79%35,964
11Ford 3,1393,937-20.27%-798

From the above table, there are few key observations, which are explained in brief. Firstly, Nissan sits at the top of the table. It is the highest scorer for growth YoY %. In July 2021, Nissan sold only 782 fresh units. As compared to July 2021, where it sold 4,259 fresh units. This four hundred times increase is quite astonishing. However, if we see the releases of July 2021, all of them performed very well in the market. The Nissan Magnite was the main attraction of this month. Even so, Nissan had a humongous increase, it still couldn’t compete with others in selling units.

On the other hand, the car giants, Volkswagen just saw an increase of 3.97%. It sold 1,962 units in July 2021 as compared to 1,887 units in July 2020.

Another key point from this July 2021 was that Skoda is still ON! After seeing dormant showrooms and little engagement, Skoda came back with a bang. This month, especially, was a miraculous one for the company. It saw an increase of 234%. Since 2019, it has been the highest recorded growth for Skoda. It sold 3,080 units in July 2021 as compared to July 2020 where only 308 units sold. Moreover, Skoda ranked 12th in the top companies with the most cars sold.

Further, this brings us to the top scorer, Maruti Suzuki. It is obvious that Maruti Suzuki sold the highest number of units. However, the growth YoY % is lower as compared to Skoda or Nissan. It saw an overall 36.79% increase. While Maruti Suzuki sold over 1.3 lakh units in the month of July 2021, it sold 97,768 units in July 2020. Further, we have Tata Motors. In July 2020, it sold 15,012 units. In July 2021, it sold 30,184 units. It saw a 10% increase in growth YoY% from last year. Similarly, it sold 10,904 units last year, however, in July 2021, it sold 20,797 units. Similarly, MG motors saw a 100% increase. While it sold 2,105 units in 2020, it sold 4,225 units in July 2021.

Toyota was underground until last year. However, in July 2021, it saw a tremendous increase in its growth YoY%. It sold 13,103 units this year as compared to its 5,086 units in July 2020. Meanwhile, almost every car brand saw a great increase. Ford saw a thrashing decline. It saw a decline of 20% in car sales. And this is one of the major reasons why it settled to leave India.

In conclusion, we can say that only Ford saw a decline in the month of July. However, other brands saw a tremendous increase.
