It is a five-seater electric automatic hatchback car with an expected showroom price of Rs. 14.00 Lakhs. Also, Tata has already revealed the Tata Altroz EV in Auto Expo 2020. Further Tata has equipped Tata Altroz EV with its new Ziptron powertrain that Tata used in its Nexon EV.

Moreover, Altroz EV features IP67 rated dust and waterproof battery pack with almost 30 kWh of capacity and offers a trip of approximately 300 km on a single charge.

Now the competition in the electric vehicle market is going to increase like crazy. Haima made its debut in Auto Expo 2020 and unveiled its Haima Bird Electric EV1. Further, you can expect EV1 to hit the Indian showrooms in 2022 with an expected price of Rs. 10.00 Lakh.

The Haima Electric Bird EV1 also called Haima E1 in China, will be launched in two variants with a range of 200km and 300 km. Also, it will come with a 20.42 kWh of battery pack that will produce a peak torque of 95Nm and a maximum speed of 120 kmph. Further, it features a large touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. 

Moreover, these upcoming electric vehicles will compete against the likes of the Mahindra eKUV100 and the Maruti Suzuki XL5 Electric. 

MINI Cooper SE

This Mini will debut in the Indian electric car market with the Cooper SE. It is an all-electric and automatic car with a 32.6kWh battery pack and a motor that produces 184PS power and gives a top speed of 150 kmph. Further, It can accelerate from 0-100 in 7.3 seconds which is pretty good for an electric car. 

The MINI Cooper SE is expected to hit the Indian market in November 2021 with an expected showroom price of Rs. 50 lakhs. 

Mahindra eKUV100

In the category of super affordable electric vehicles, the Mahindra eKUV100 will be an important addition. 

It is expected to launch in December 2021 with a base showroom price of Rs. 8.25 Lakhs.

 It is an automatic mini-SUV-based electric car. It features a 15.9kWh liquid-cooled battery which can power the vehicle for a 147 km trip in one charge. In addition to this, the eKUV100 has an electric motor that can generate a maximum power of 54PS and a peak torque of 120Nm.  

It competes with the likes of Mahindra eVerito and Tata Tigor EV. 

Maruti Suzuki Futuro-e

The Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the all-new Futuro-e in Auto Expo 2020. The launch date is unknown. However, it can be expected to hit the Indian market in 2022. The expected showroom price of Futuro-e is Rs. 15.00 Lakh.  

Further, Futuro EV is an all-electric vehicle with a manual-only transmission. The details of the engine and battery are yet unavailable.

As we know, Mercedes-Benz is a huge name in the category of super luxurious cars. Now the electric car market will also see cars designed by Mercedes-Benz. Also, this one is the smallest electric SUV of Mercedes-Benz and is expected to go on sale in India in early 2022. 

It will come with a 66.5 kWh battery pack and an electric motor that produces a power of 190PS and a peak torque of 375 Nm. Moreover, the expected base price of this car will be Rs. 60 lakhs.

The Tesla is expected to launch its Model 3 in India in early 2022. Model 3 is an electric sedan with an expected showroom price starting at Rs 60 lakh onwards. However, the EV giant company will modify the US model to suit the needs of the Indian drivers and Indian emission norms.

It will compete against similarly priced Sedans in India such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, and Volvo S90.

Challenges faced by EVs

In India, Electric cars account for only 1% of the annual car sale. The infrastructure needs a major revamp to establish a successful electric car market in India. 

While electric cars are expensive, the high taxes and scant charging infrastructure are other hurdles that electric vehicles face. However, gradually the government is working to expand the electric car market.
