The Word “Made in India” does not mean, the car is manufactured in India. It is the foreign manufacturers building, or in a joint venture, in India. Before looking at the 10 made-in-India cars we are proud of, let’s find out more about the Indian car manufacturing Industry.

The automotive Industry in India is the fifth largest automotive in the world.

The majority of the India’s car manufacturing industry is evenly divided into three “Clustersspecifically :

1. Around Chennai is the southernmost and largest, with a 35% revenue share.

2. Near Mumbai, Maharashtra, along the Chakan corridor near Pune, is the western cluster, with a 33% share of the market.

3. The Northern cluster is around the National Capital Region and contributes 32%. Gurgaon and Manesar, in Haryana.

Let’s take a look at 10 made in India Cars as follows:
1. Tata NEXON

First and foremost, Tata comes under India’s topmost brand. It is India’s first car to score a 5-Star rating at the Global NCAP crash testing. Talking about the engines, the NEXON offering with two engine options: 1.2-liter REVOTRON turbo petrol capable of producing 118.3hp of power and a peak torque of 170Nm and REVOTRON diesel engine with churns out 108hp of power and 260Nm of torque. 

Its Safety features like Electronic Stability Program, roll-over mitigation, hill hold control, emergency brake assist, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX anchorage, dual airbags as standard, and the fortified cabin, this car surely knows how to make the occupants feel safe. That’s not all, Tata NEXON has more features like cruise control, electric sunroof, express tool, etc.

2. Mahindra XUV300

Mahindra XUV300 also secures 5-Star rating in Global NCAP, it was also the first car to get 4-Star rating child safety.

The Mahindra gets two engine options: a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine which produces 108hp of power and the best-in-class torque 200Nm and a 1.5-liter turbo-diesel engine which oozes 115hp of power and 300Nm of torque.

The Mahindra XUV300 having first-class safety features such as 7 airbags, 4-Disc brakes, front parking sensors. It is also equipped with ABS with EBD, ESP with roll-over mitigation, front and rare fog lamps, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

3.Tata Safari

Another Car from Tata, the Tata Safari is still the first choice of people who want to buy a powerful and affordable SUV. It was launched in 1998 with a 4X4 option. The engine duty was done by Turbo diesel engine which produced 89hp of power.

Tata always a step forward when it comes to the safety of its customers. The safety features include: ABS, with EBD and airbags.

4.Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS

South Korea’s leading carmaker and India’s largest exporter of cars, Hyundai, is known for the ultimate feature-loaded cars. It is the latest generation of the most famous hatchbacks by Hyundai, the i10. 

There are 3 engine options with the Grand i10 NIOS :

The first one is the 1.2-liter Kappa petrol engine which churns out 81hp of power and 133Nm of torque. The 1.2-liter U2 CRDI diesel engine, on the other hand, produces 74hp of power and 190Nm of torque. And the third one is the 1.0-liter turbo GDI petrol engine which produces 98hp of power and 172Nm of torque.

5.DC Avanti

India’s very own car customization company owned by DC (DILIP CHHABRIA), launched a Sports Car that was completely built in India. With his vision of making an indigenous sports car. He designed the Avanti, India’s first sports car. It is powered by a Renault-sourced 2.0-liter engine capable of churning out 310Nm. Also, the Special edition of Avanti even featured paddle shifts.

6. Mahindra Scorpio

The SUV literally made cars suffer from low self-esteem due to the bold stan and rigid body it is built on. Seeing the success of Bolero in the SUV segment, Mahindra introduced the Indians to another SUV segment, Mahindra introduced the Indians to another SUV, Scorpio. It came powered by a 2.6-liter turbocharged 4-Cylinder engine which produced 104.8hp and a 270Nm of torque. The rugged SUV has gone through some major revamp sessions which have kept it alive. Because of this, Scorpio has been strong since 2002 and even after 18 years, the demand seems to have no bounds.

7. Hyundai Verna

Recently, Hyundai launched the all-new Verna 2020. Verna is one of the most premium offerings from the South Korean carmaker. It is also got 3 engine options like the Grand i10 NIOS. A 1.0 liter turbocharged GDI petrol engine will churn out 98.63hp of power and 172Nm of peak torque. Another 1.5-liter diesel engine with a power output of 113.4hp of power and 250Nm of peak torque. The third one is a 1.5litre petrol engine producing 113hp of power and 144Nm of torque.

Verna features a wireless charger, the smart boot, emergency stop signal, twin tip, and so on. So, it is one of the favorite made-in-India cars.

8. Mahindra e20

Mahindra e20 is a fully indigenous electric car in India. It comes powered by a 19kW, 3-phase AC induction motor which produces over 70Nm of torque. Above all, talking about the features it has got smartphone App connectivity, advanced battery technology, low maintenance cost, small turning radius, torque on demand, and so on, make this car indeed a good choice for local traveling.

9. Ford EcoSport

India’s first sub compact SUV, EcoSport is produced in Chennai’s plant of Ford in India. It was initially exported to European market later in 2018, the export to the North America market also began. This SUV is known to be compact yet adequately powered. 

The Ford EcoSport is powered by a 1.5 litre, three-cylinder engine pushing maximum power output to 122hp with 149Nm of torque.

10. Tata Nano

Last but not the least, Tata Nano began with an idea to give the Indians the cheapest possible car and Ratan Tata promised the country the same. The car was born with a price tag of 1 lakh with the comfort of it.
