The Automaker giant of India- Tata Motors launched the all-new mini SUV Tata Punch in the Indian market on 18 October 2021. The Pre-bookings for the youngest sub-compact SUV of Tata began on 4 October 2021 with an initial token amount of Rs. 21,000. The all-new Tata Punch is the youngest among the other Tata SUVs- Tata Nexon, Tata Harrier, and the Tata Safari. Also, it will compete with Renault Kiger, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Nissan Magnite, the upcoming Hyundai Casper, and the upcoming Citroen C3 in India. Just like its name, Tata Punch will punch its competitors by offering the best experiences of the SUV at an affordable price.

Tata Punch- the small car packed with the best SUV experiences was launched in a number of variants. The variants are as follows:

All of the above-listed variants of Tata Punch offer cars in both Manual and Automatic transmission except Tata Punch Pure and Tata Punch Pure (O).

Prices of Tata Punch

The price of the all-new Tata Punch starts at Rs. 5.49 lakhs in the capital of India. The showroom prices of the manual variant of this micro-SUV range from Rs. 5.49- 8.79 lakhs. On the other hand, the showroom prices of the Automatic variant of this car range between Rs. 6.99- 9.39 lakhs. However, these prices of the sub-compact SUV are valid till December 31, 2021. 

Design of Tata Punch car

Tata Punch has a similar design to Tata Harrier and is based on the HBX concept that Tata debuted at Auto expo 2020. It is the first SUV from the ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture.

It has features like daytime running lamps (DRLs) and three tri-arrow patterns on the black grille with headlights below the bumper. Further, it has dual-tone body color and roof rails. The rear of the car has a sharply designed tailgate, integrated roof spoiler, and squarish LED taillights that give it an awesome look. Most of these features are based on the HBX concept. However, the rear bumper is rather simple in design than the HBX concept features. In addition to this, Tata Punch comes with 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Tata Punch has 188 mm ground clearance for that SUV look. 

The 90° opening doors, signature humanity line of Tata, Cladding on doors, wheel arches, and sill cladding give it a bolder look.

The interior cabin is rather minimalist but stylish with dual-tone black and off-white cabin, a well-organized clutter-free dashboard, and horizontal air-con vents. In addition to this, this amazing car offers a decent boot space of 366 liters for extra luggage. However, it misses out on rear air-con vents and front central armrest. Further, Tata Punch ranks really good on comfort in its category. Also, the start and stop engine button, automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver seat, leather steering wheel & gear knob, the auto fold ORVM, rear armrest, and a cooled glovebox are some of the really cool features the car has. 

In addition to this, rear wiper and wash, over 25 utility spaces to store what you need, tilt steering for personalized driving experience, and steering mounted controls that offer the infotainment unit controls and cruise access control at one place make this car worth the money. 

Engine and performance

The Tata Punch is a petrol car with a 1.2 L Revotron Engine with Dyna pro-technology, the same as the Tata Altroz.

The engine produces a maximum power of 63 kW @ 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 113 Nm @ 3300 rpm. 

Further, the car is equipped with a 5-speed manual (Standard) and automatic (optional) transmission gearbox.

Further, it has 3 fuel cylinders and an 1199 cc capacity. The total capacity of the fuel tank in Punch car is 37 liters. Additionally, it features two drive modes- Eco and City. 

Also, it gives a mileage of 18.97 kmpl in Manual transmission and 18.82 kmpl in Automatic transmission as per the ARAI certification.

Further, it features disc-type front brakes and drum-type rear brakes. The front suspension is an independent Mcpherson strut with a coil spring. While the rear suspension is a semi-independent twist beam with coil spring and shock absorber. 

A really interesting feature of Tata Punch is that it automatically turns off the engine when in idle mode and helps save that precious fuel. But don’t worry! Turning the engine back on is really easy with just the ‘Punch’ of a button.

Infotainment unit

Tata Punch has really good tech features. Further, the instrument cluster is partially digital and 7-inch long. The infotainment unit of it is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also, It features four speakers and two tweeters for a better jamming experience. Further, the iRA technology (optional) offers a range of features such as:

  •  ‘Tribes’ to connect with other Owners 
  • Geo-fence
  •  language options
  • and a feature called ‘what3words’ with which the car takes you anywhere with just three words.

 For a micro-SUV, Tata Punch has pretty good features. 

Safety features

The Tata Punch compact SUV is equipped with dual airbags in the front, a reverse parking camera, front fog lamps with cornering function, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and a rear defogger. The added safety features include a strong steel cabin with a muscular structure to absorb a high level of impact, the Antilock Braking System (ABS), and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) with brake sway control to always stabilize the car even when you are distracted. 

Also, you can also strap in your kid safely at the back as it supports Isofix child seats. 

Above all, Tata Punch car scored 5-stars in the Global (NCAP) New Car Assessment Program crash test, making it the third Tata car with a 5-star (adult) safety GNCAP rating and one of the safest cars on sale in India.
