Top 10 car units sold in the month of May 2021 v/s May 2020

The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the automobile industry. When everything in the automobile was coming back to the track then May lockdown contributed to its downfall. While in May 2020 when the country was reeling under the pandemic it also faced huge economic losses but May 2021 still managed to do a little better than that of May 2020.

If you are expecting Maruti to be in the 1st position of May 2021 then you’ll have to keep waiting. Because our very own Hyundai Motor took the 1st position from the list of top-10 May cars.

1. Hyundai Creta

Congratulations to Hyundai Motor India. It was the top-selling vehicle in India of the month of May 2021. Hyundai Creta sold 7,527 units in May 2021.

2. Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Swift took the second position by selling 7005 units. It was consistent to be in the first position but for the first, it took the second position. There is a downfall of 62% from last month because of the lockdown.

3. Kia Sonet

We can see the variety in the top-selling cars of May 2021. Kia took the third position. There is a 14% MoM drop due to lockdown.

4. Tata Nexon

Finally, we are observing new faces. Tata Nexon acquired the fourth position by selling 6,439 units. Although there is a 7% MoM drop still it managed to take a good position. The factor behind the slight drop was the lockdown and despite that, there isn’t any huge loss.

5. Maruti Dzire

Maruti is the top-selling car of India. In May 2021, Maruti Dzire took the fifth position by selling 5,819 units. The drop in sales can be because of the lockdown or because of the CNG removal, one can never guess.

6. Hyundai Venue

Hyundai Venue marked the sixth position by selling 4,840 units in May 2021 against 1,242 units during the compatible month in 2020 with 289.7% volume flow.

7. Maruti Baleno

It was a surprise to see the list of May 2021, as the table has now turned and Baleno is shifted to the second half of the list. Maruti Suzuki Baleno sold 4,803 units marking its 7th position in the list, and with an MoM drop of around 71%.

8. Kia Seltos

 The second most popular Korean car marker, “Kia” sold 4,277 units in May 2021. Kia has experienced an MoM drop of around 47.11%.

9. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

Here comes our very own Grand i10 with its sporty look, great performance, and mileage it sold 3,804 units in May 2021. Although it experienced an MoM drop of 67.04% it still ranked 7th position.

10. Mahindra Bolero

Last but not least from the top 10 list of May 2021 we have a new entrant Mahindra Bolero. It sold 3,517 units in May 2021.
