1. Check for the strength of brakes
While testing the new cars this can be done by checking if you require some extra power while applying brakes or not. If some power is required then that means the brakes are powerful and good. With time you will become accustomed to it and it will also ensure your safety in the conditions sudden brakes are to be applied.
2. To test the acceleration,
Just reverse the car to 4000 rpm and see if the car is quick or not. This may come in handy in the times of an emergency reverse to see if the car is able to handle high force at times or not.
3.To Check Engine
Make sure to observe the loudness of the noise which the engine emits while the car is in motion. A quiet engine is an indication of a good engine. If the car gives good mileage, doesn’t emit any odd smells, has no noise emission, then the car can be certified to have a well-functioned engine which is as vital for the car as a well-functioning heart is for the human body. Turn off the ignition and see if the car still continues to run. If this happens then it is a sign of a troubled engine. If the engine gets too heated up after a short drive, then this is a sign of a troubled engine.
4. Suspension Performance
Also, take a drive on rough terrain to ensure that the suspension performance is good and the cabin does not rattle or squeals much. Try different speeds within the legal speed limit to check for NVH(Noise, Vibration, and Harshness).
5. Tyres
Check if the tyres are branded and have a good grip while driving on rough terrain or when brakes are suddenly applied.
6. AC
See if the turning on of the AC affects the speed of the car. If this happens then the car is not well designed to bear the excessive load and may not fulfill your all needs. Also, Check if the tailpipe is properly working emitting the smoke.
8. Lights
Ensure that all the warning lights, indicators lights, other lights, horns and the fan or blower, and other gadgets are properly intact and working.
9. Mirrors
Make sure that the mirrors have clear visibility of the road from the driver’s seat. Reverse the car in the parking to check for the rear visibility and changes lanes to check the side visibility.
Follow the following steps to ensure that the physical features of the car are suitable to fulfill your needs.
- Check the boot of the car and access if its height and depth meet your needs or not. Also, make sure that the spare tyre is unused, well intact, and branded.
- Take a good walk around the car checking for dents that may have occurred during transportation from the manufacturing company to the showroom. Also, check if the car is properly painted especially around door and window ledges and the edges of the engine compartment which often goes unnoticed.
- Make sure to check for the Chassis or VIN number on the engine bay. Chassis number is a 17-digit number code provided by the manufacturer to the user which distinguishes one model from another. It is important to have the Chassis number for the registration purpose of the car as well as to identify the car if stolen.
- Take a test drive of the car and make sure that the seats match your comfort level so as whatever time you spend inside your car especially during long traffic jams which is a common occurrence in India, does not leave you with an aching back. Some cars have less seating space for the driver. Make sure that the space is adjusted according to your height and not vice versa.
