The 2020 year was an unforgettable year for the world, but April 2020 specifically was a shocking month for the automobile industry. Lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic meant that no sales of vehicles and that is exactly how April 2020 went!
Just when the automobile industry started to recover, the second wave affected all of us again. In March 2021, the Indian automobile industry made a strong comeback but due to the second wave, April 2021 had affected car sales.

As we know, in India Maruti needs no introduction. Maruti Suzuki continued to be in the top 5-selling cars of April 2021.
- April 2021, Wagon R tops the list by selling 18,656 units. it has taken a leap from number three from the list of March. However, it is less than the units sold in March 2021, which were 18,757.
- The best seller Maruti Swift failed to top to number 1 position. It takes 2nd position of April 2021. The previous month, Maruti Swift sold 21,714 units while in April 2021 it sold 18,316. There is a decrease of 15.6% in MoM.
- Maruti Alto took an upgrade. March’21 Alto was in 4th position with the selling of 17,401 units. In April 2021 it took the 3rd position by selling 17,303 with a fall of 0.6%.
- Maruti Baleno is the best hatchback in the country but it’s astonishing to see the huge drop to 4th position. It sold 16,384 units in April’21 against 21,217 units sold in March’21. The total loss of 22.8%.
- Hyundai was in the 5th position in March’21 but Maruti upgraded its position to the 5th. Dzire sold 14,073 units in April’21 whereas Dzire only sold 11,434 units in March’21. There we see a growth of 23.1%.
- Hyundai might not be able to in top-5 but surely in the top-10. Hyundai Creta sold 12,463 units in April’21. In March’21 Hyundai Creta sold 12,640 units. With a loss of 1.4%.
- Lucky for Hyundai i10, it upgraded its position to 7th in April 2021. Hyundai I10 Grand Nios sold 11,540 whereas in March’21 it only sold 11,020 units. This marks a MoM growth of 4.7%.
- We can see, the only minivan that made it to the list is Maruti Eeco. In March 11,547 units were sold while in April’21 sold 11,469 units, with a loss of 0.7%.
- Hyundai Venue has a 1-step up-gradation; it took the 9th position in April’21 by selling 11,245 more than March 2021 where it sold 10,722. This marks the MoM growth of 4.9%.
- Last but not the least; Maruti Vitara Brezza was brought down from 8th position to 10th position as compared to the list of March top-10. Maruti Vitara Brezza sold 11,220 units in April 2021 while it sold 11,274 units in March 2021. With a MoM drop of 0.5%.
